Marilyn Humbert - Australia

3am

withered petals
spill on fallen snow —
the track
travelled together
frozen in time

Photos line the wall of Mum’s house. Each one framed and hung in no particular order. When unable to sleep, she wanders the bare boards studying each scene . . .

fluttering
shadow kisses
brushing warmth
of his hands —
memories stir

On another night, she pauses, head tilted to one side . . . puzzled

echoes . . .
random notes of a song
word fragments —
the jigsaw pieces
that wont fit together

Until, too, this night-ritual is forgotten.
