Shades of Blue

Beastly hot afternoon. The heat pump hums, cools the rooms. From the sofa, in front of the bank of windows, I look out at the rock garden. A hummingbird flashes by, drops down to a red geranium -- takes a sip, then another sip of the blue catmint blossom, then rises for a long draught of sugar water at the feeder. Lazily I stroke an ivory velvet pillow . . . .

my mind
so full of you, your kisses
and how
like the hummy, one sip
is never enough!
